Les preuves de noblesse de cette famille furent trouvées bonnes en 1598, par les commissaires de gouvernement. En 1366 et 1383, elle est qualifiée des titres de damoiseau et écuyer. Noble Louis Sauzet rendit hommage au dénombrement le 10 avril 1391. Messire Louis était grand-prieur d'Auvergne en 1633. Jean Sauzet, sieur de Ladouze, habitant de la paroisse de Condat, sénéchaussé de Périgueux, est porté dans l'Armorial manuscrit de la fin du XVIIème siècle, souvent cité, avec le blason ci-dessus. On trouve plus tard, dans la bourgeoisie du Puy, une famille de ce même nom mais nous ne saurions dire s'il existe une communauté d'origine entre les Sauzet du Périgord et ceux du Velay. On signale toutefois: André Sauzet, orfèvre, 5e consul du Puy en 1666, marié à Jeanne Arnaud, laissa onze enfants, entre autres: André-Sébastien, allié en 1703 à Berbe Genestet et en 1710 à Marie Morel. André, orfèvre, trésorier des Pénitents du Puy en 1703, offrit à la chapelle de cette confrérie un tableau sur lequel sont peintes ses armes qui sont: d'argent, au saule terrassé de sinople; à un chef d'azur chargé de deux oiseaux affrontés d'or. Antoine Sauzet, marchand orfèvre, 2e consul du Puy en 1685, fit enregistrer en 1696 ses armoiries dans d'Hozier. Il portait: d'argent, à un sule de sinople. ...
