Le prime memorie di questa nobile famiglia risalgono al XIII secolo, in cui viveva un Allegranzio, il quale nel 1270 ottenne assicurazioni de' suoi vassalli per ordine di Carlo I d'Angiò. Sergio e Teodino, valorosi capitani, furono alla crociata sotto Luigi re di Francia (1270): fu organizzata ancora da Luigi IX su richiesta di Clemente IV, ma ormai gli interessi politici prevalevano su quelli religiosi, tanto che il fratello del re Carlo I d'Angiò, re di Sicilia, riuscì a deviare la spedizione verso Tunisi, Luigi IX morì di peste nell'assedio di questa città (1270) e il suo esercito tornò in Francia. Negli ultimi anni del XIII secolo vi furono ulteriori tentativi di organizzazione e proclami che però non sortirono effetti e, con la presa di S.
