Origem do sobrenome Schepis, país de origem: ItaliaNobreza: Nobles
report by several historians, as the Minutoli, the Inveges and the Mugnos, mentions precisely a noble Schepis family, originally from Sicily, with residence in Palermo. A considerable branch of the family, mentioned by the Crollalanza in the volumes of his "Dizionario Storico-Blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane, estinte e fiorenti", placed instead its residence in Santa Lucia del Mela, near Messina. Moreover, this family, in all ages, always stood out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal and ecclesiastical professions and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Nicola, notary, living in Palermo, in 1523; Giacomo who distinguished himself in the defense of Malta against the Turks in 1565; Alessandro, Soldier Cuirassier of King Philip II of Spain; dr. Benedetto, landowner; Fr Luigi, apostolic commissioner, flourishing in 1604; Gio. Batta, Doctor in "utroque jure", living in Palermo in 1628; Angelo, chief physician at the Neapolitan Court, living in 1646; Agostino, Doctor in "utroque jure", living in Palermo, in 1696; Antonio, landowner; D. Angelo, Army officer of the Kingdom of Naples; Francesco, Chancellor to the General Parliament of Sicily; P. Niccolò, Carmelite, and D. Francesco, among the signatories of the "petition of nine thousand priests Italians to SS Pope Pius IX and the bishops united with it", in 1862; Pietro Schepis, mayor of Pace del Mela, from 26 September 1927. From the analysis of tinctures and symbols of the coat of arms we can have more information about the family virtues. The tincture azure symbolizes water, the continuity of life, it is a colour of nobility, beauty, chastity and fidelity; the gold lion means bravery, strength, ferocity, and valour; the star with straight sides (mullet) means celestial goodness, leadership and excellence. Family names so old, without any doubt honour not only families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy the living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious members.
