Não há unanimidade acerca do nome do primeiro que passou a Portugal, pois uns dizem que se chamava Fernão ou João Garcia de S., ao passo que outros o denominam Mem Rodrigues de Senabria, ou de S. foram que tomou em Portugal o apelido o qual veio no reinado de D. Fernando I. Talvez todos tenham razão e o apelido viesse por mais de uma via. Mem Rodrigues, de Senabria era mordomo-mor de D. Pedro, rei de Castela, por cuja morte se transferiu a Portugal, como outros fidalgos castelhanos ficando ao serviço de D. Fernando. Trouxe consigo mulher e filhos e por mercê do Rei português teve os senhorios de Montalegre. Feira Cabanães, Cambra a Barqueiros, Parece que o seu mais antigo ascendente conhecido foi Fernão Pires de Senabria e que Mem Rodrigues se casou com D. Maior Fernandes de Biedma filha de Fernaõ Rodrigues de Biedma e de D. Marinha. Uns indicam só como filhoa, Mem de S., sem mais notícia, e Diogo de S. mas outros ascrescentam-lhe D. Elvira casada com Pedro Anes da Nóvo a e D. Teresa Fernandes de S., terceira mulher de Martim Dade, o Moço, alcaide-mor de Santarém de quem teve geração. Digo de S. atrás referido, esteve com seu irmão na tomada de Ceuta e aí foram armados cavaleiros pelo Príncipe D. Duarte e Infante D. Pedro.
