Se dice en el expediente de pruebas de nobleza del Caballero de la Orden de Santiago, don Juan de S. y Alcedo, que la antigua casa solar del apellido S., en la provincia de Santander, estaba sita en el lugar de Matienzo, que pertenece al Ayuntamiento de Valle de Ruesga y partido judicial de Ramales, y que de ella se derivó la que los ascendientes de dicho caballero crearon en el lugar de Oruña, del Ayuntamiento de Valle de Piélagos y partido judicial de Santander. En principios del la segunda mitad del siglo XVI era descendiente de la casa de S. en el lugar de Matienzo Tomás de S., marido de doña Catalina de la Hondal, ambos vecinos del lugar de Arce, que, como el de Oruña, también pertenece al Ayuntamiento de Valle de Piélagos, y padres de Francisco de S. y de Hondal, nacido en Arce en 1596. Casó en Oruña, en 1621, con doña Isabel de Cabo y de la Lastra, quedando establecidos en Oruña, donde nació su hijo Nicolás de S. y de Cabo, que vino al mundo en 1624. Casó en Oruña, en 1648, con doña María de Alsedo y de la Sota, de la misma naturaleza, naciendo de esta unión El Caballero de Sanitago, Juan de S. y Alsedo, antes nombrado, nacido en Oruña en 1658. Siendo muy niño vino a Madrid para residir en la casa de su tío Juan Fernández de S., Contador Mayor de Resultas, cargo que más tarde desempeñó en la villa y Corte su sobrino. ...
