Nobility crown ServentEl más antiguo varón de este apellido que en nuestras investigaciones hemos encontrado, se llamó Berenguer S. Lo nombra mosén Jaime Febrer. Vino a España desde Perpiñán para intervenir en la conquista del reino de Valencia en servicio del rey aragonés don Jaime I. Luchó valerosamente en el Puig, Valencia, Ribarrocha, Játiva y Alcoy, y en premio de sus hazañas y lealtad, le premió dicho monarca heredándole ricamente en la ciudad de Jijona, designándole también para organizar el reparto de tierras. En Ibi, villa del partido judicial de Jijona (Alicante), le dejó por conservador del castillo Rojo, que él había sabido ganar y que luego restauró. Radicó en Xixona y tuvo allí dilatada y duradera descendencia a la que Gaspar Escolano se refiere diciendo: "De esa villa (Xixona) salieron en nuestros días a servir en las guerras del Piamonte, Francia y Flandes, ocho hermanos y deudos del linaje de S.; que por ser ellos tantos y tantos merecen acuerdo particular en nuestras relaciones". A continuación escribe: "Don Gerónimo S. sirvió al rey Felipe segundo en todas las ocasiones de su tiempo, por espacio de cuarenta años, como fueron los socorros de Orán y de la Goleta o Túnez y toma del Peñón de los Vélez de la Gomera. Después pasó a la guerra de Flandes con sus hermanos don Andrés y don Felipe, donde asistieron todo el tiempo que gobernó aquellos estados el duque de Alba, y se señalaron en la batalla de San Guillén, cuando fue preso Mos de Jauli, y así mismo en la de Mont de Enau.
