Nobility crown SirmondExcellente famille riomoise, originaire du mas de Sirmond près la Chaise-Dieu, anoblie en 1618. Connue depuis Armand sieur dudit lieu, notaire royal d'Arlanc (1480-1527), marié à Antonie du Lac, veuve en 1528. Leurs enfants: François, Vitale alliée à N. de Vernaison, et Antoine prieur des bénédictins d'Arlanc, furent compris au terrier de ce bourg (1528). Branche fixée à Riom. Jean, écuyer, prévôt de Riom (1547), fut la tige d'une lignée très marquante qui a produit: des chanoines de St-Amable; des religieux bénédictins et dignitaires de l'abbaye de la Chaise-Dieu; deux savants jésuites, l'un d'eux confesseur de Louis XIII; un membre de l'Académie française mort en 1649; un membre de l'Académie des Iscriptions et Belles-lettres; un scrétaire du roi au parlement de Paris; des commissaires des guerres; un lieutenant-général de la maréchaussée d'auvergne; de nombreux officiers, officiers, chevaliers de St-Louis, etc. Éteinte fin XVIIIème siècle dans les des Plats de Montaclier et les de Beaufranchet d'Ayat. A ce nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on a reproduit ci-contre et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique la certitude d'une valeur remarquable.
