Tosos los ascendientes de esta noble casa, hasta el siglo XVIII, se apellidaron S., y el sabio don Gregorio Mayans, cuya madre pertenecía a esta familia, se firmó siempre del mismo modo. El primero que lo castellanizó fue don Gaspar C. y Pascual. Su hijo, don Pedro C. y Fernández de Mesa, continuó firmando como su padre, y sus títulos de licenciado y doctor en leyes, que obtuvo en la universidad de Gandía, fueron expedidos con la modificación de C.
