Autores catalanes, entre otros J. R. Vila, sitúan en el Empordà el antiguo solar de este linaje. El Empordà es el territorio de la provincia de Gerona que comprende los pueblos de los partidos judiciales de Figueres, La Bisbal, Olot y Gerona, y al de La Bisbal pertenece el denominado T. o La Tallada, en el que pudo haber tenido su origen y tomado su nombre el linaje, si en realidad arranca del Empordà su procedencia. El valenciano Martín de Viciana no lo confirma en los datos que aporta sobre el arranque y desenvolvimiento de esta familia. Por el contrario. He aquí lo que dice sobre la procedencia de los T.: "Son caballeros del solar conocido la Vilafranca de Penedés (villa de la provincia de Barcelona), donde fueron señores del castillo de Fontella. De esta familia vino mosén Bernardo de T. a la conquista de Játiva, año 1244, según parece en el libro del repartimiento de los conquistadores de Játiva".
