Cette famille compte le savant chroniqueur du Sarladais, qui fut successivement chanoine, vicaire-général et aumônier ordinaire de Louis XIV. Immédiatement après lui on voit, par une série de titres officiels, que, depuis la création d'un tribunal de l'élection de Sarlat, en 1636, jusqu'à sa suppression en 1790, un office d'élu a toujours été possédé par un membre da la famille et transmis de père en fils ou de grand-père à petit-fils, jusqu'au bisaïl de Gabriel, aujourd'hui, juge d'instruction au tribunal de Sarlat, et en outre littérateur distingué. C'est ce dernier et le vicomte Gaston de Gérard, petits-neveux du chanoine, qui ont eu la bonne pensée de publier ses intéressantes chroniques, restées jusqu'à ce jour inédites.D'autres charges se joignent souvent à ces fonctions judiciaires. Je puis citer, par exemple, la nomination, en 1735, de Joseph (grand-père de Gabriel) au grade de lieutenant de la compagnie de St-Vivien. Autre branche, s'est rendue fort importante durant la domination anglaise. L'un de ses membres, honoré de la confiance du roi d'Angleterre, et originaire des Landes, a pris des châteaux, organisé des flottes, et ses descendants, se rapprochant beaucoup de notre région, sont devenus Girondins, peut-être même Périgourdins. M. Grellet-Balguerie, cet éminent chercheur, tient pour probable que cette famille se rattache à celle du Périgord. Quoi qu'il en soit, ce document, puisé aux archives de Londres, m'a paru assez curieux pour en faire mention dans cette notice. La famille de Tarde, alliée aux familles de Gérard, d'Albier de Bellefond, de Salignac, de Vivans, est représentée par Gabriel de Tarde cité plus haut, marié avec Mlle Bardy de Lisle, dont sont issus trois fils. ...
