Según viejos documentos, este linaje es originario del Empordá, y sus primitivos ascendientes eran feudatarios de los condes de Empuries y señores del lugar (hoy villa) de Torroella de Montgrí, que pertenece al partido judicial de La Bisbal y provincia de Gerona. Hay otras muestras confirmatorias de que el linaje tuvo su arranque y primitivo asiento en la hoy villa de T. de Montgrí y en otros lugares de sus cercanías. He aquí algunas: Entre los enterramientos del monasterio de Santa María, en el lugar de Ullá, que también pertenece al partido judicial de La Bisbal, figura el de Pedro de T., año 1128. Y por el testamento de Bernardo de T. de Montgrí, barón de Santa Eugenia de Berga, consta que dicho caballero mandó, año 1268, que se le enterrara en el mismo citado monasterio. Falleció en 1269. Líneas de esta casa residieron en la ciudad de Gerona, en la villa de Castelló d'Empuries, del partido judicial de Figueres, en la misma provincia; en el lugar de Sant Cugat del Vallés, del partido de Terrassa, de la de Barcelona; en el de Rubí, también del partido de Terrassa, en Barcelona y en otras localidades catalanes. En la iglesia de Castello d'Empuries y de Sant Cugat del Vallés hay también antiguas sepulturas de caballeros de este linaje, así como en el monasterio de Banyoles. Otra rama pasó a Mallorca a raíz de su conquista, quedando allí radicada. ...
