Le sue prime memorie rimontano al XI secolo, nel quale vivevano ed abitavano il detto castello i coniugi Burgondo e Rishera, sorella questa di S. Anselmo Arciv. di Chantorbery. Burgondo fu un Pio cavaliere che volle fare il pellegrinaggio di Terrasanta, ed il suo figlio primogenito, Anselmo, che prima fu abbate del convento di S. Sabbia in Roma, poi nel 1121 di quello di S. Anselmo in Inghilterra, e finalmente vescovo di Londra. Questa casa si divise in due rami, quello di Gressan e l'altro di Villa, ma il nome più comune de la Tour gli venne dall'antico castello che questa famiglia abitava. Spogliata della giurisdizione signorile dai conti di Savoja, conservò essa la paria di terra con tutti i beni. La casa di Villa subì pertanto una diminuzione di gloria, ma occupò fino alla fine del XV secolo un posto onorevole nella storia, i suoi membri intervenendo alle udienze generali, mostrandosi ognora vigili guardiani delle libertà della valle e continuando a godere della generale considerazione.
