Algunos autores identifican este apellido con el de Uncela, pero nosotros preferimos estudiarlo separa damente porque algunas casas y generalogías son completamente distintas. Dice Lope García de Salazar que éste fué linaje poderoso, del que procedió Lope Ortiz de U., a quien heredó su hijo Pedro López de U., que casó con una señora de la familia de Marzana y procreó a Ochoa Ruiz de U., que celebró su enlace con una hija de Juan López de Galbán, naciendo de esta unión Lope de U., que casó con una señora de la Casa de Zaldívar. Sus hijos continuaron el apellido, residiendo, la mitad de ellos, en Vizcaya, y la otra mitad, en Guipúzcoa. Desde muy antiguo radicó en la anteiglesia de Cenarruza, del partido de Marquina (Vizcaya), una casa armera de este apellido, que algunos autores consideran fué el primitivo solar. Otra hubno en la villa de Orozco, del partido de Bilbao; otra en esta misma villa, y otra en las Encartaciones. En Guipúzcoa hallamos casas de Unzueta en la villa de Eibar, del partido de Vergara, y en Álava, en el lugar de Ascoaga, del Ayuntamiento de Aramayona y partido de Vitoria. Ocha de U. suscribió en 1353 el tratado de treguas de Juan de Avendaño y sus parientes con la villa de Bilbao, confirmato por Don Tello, Señor de Vizcaya, el 28 de Noviembre del mismo año. En 1392, Pedro López de U., Señor del solar de U., celebró un convenio con el Concejo de Miranda de Iraurqui, cercano a Azcóitia, en Guipúzcoa. ...
