Famiglia originaria del Castello di Bazzano, detta Maniero o Manieri, passata in Aquila alla sua fondazione, avvenuta al tempo dell'imperatore Federico II, e facente parte di quel Patriziato dall'inizio di esso. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione è riconducibile al nome medioevale germanico, di tradizione franca, "Mainerius", di cui abbiamo nota già in un Codice Diplomatico della Lombardia medievale, dove, in una sentenza scritta in Milano l'8 novembre 1174, si legge: "...Sententiam protulit Arnaldus iudex qui dicitur Mainerius consul Mediolani..". Il casato, si distinse per alti uffici e dignità. Tra i membri che maggiormente la illustrarono, ricordiamo: Dantino, di Pietro, proprietario di alcuni feudi in Firenze, vivente nel 1327; Carlo Maria, Senatore di Roma nel 1486; Alberto, dottore in l'una e l'altra legge, aquilano, vivente nel 1521; Antonio, dottore in Sacra Teologia, vivente in Roma, nel 1636.
