Famiglia spagnola, proveniente da Olite presso Pamplona, che godè la nobiltà ereditaria fin dal tempo di Isabella la Cattolica. Trasmigrata a Lucca, nella prima metà del secolo XIX, meritò il favore della Corte Borbonica, che fece iscrivere dalla Deputazione di Nobiltà, istituita nel 1826, Domenico Maria, ciambellano e direttore della Segreteria interna di gabinetto, alla nobiltà ereditaria lucchese, il 1° settembre 1828. Con successivo decreto del 26 dicembre 1833, fu riconosciuto allo stesso Domenico Maria la nobiltà ereditaria spagnola, e gli venne insieme conferito il titolo ereditario di Conte.
