Cette famille alliée aux Rochechouart, Fitz-James et Polignac a pour auteur François-Samuel, époux de Madeleine d'Orange, établi aux Antilles en 1661, colonel des milices du Fort-Royal et capitaine général garde-côtes au département du Croisic, anobli pour services militaires par lettres de 1706, enregistrées au conseil souverain de la Martinique en 1708. La branche de Tréville a produit au dernier siècle deux lieutenants-généraux des armées navales et un chancelier du duc d'Orléans, député aux États-Généraux de 1789, vice-amiral en 1801, mort en 1804, sans postérité. La branche de la Touche-Beauregard qui existe encore, s'est allièes en Bretagne aux Dresnay; la branche de Bonneterre a fait enregistrer ses titres au conseil souverain de la Martinique en 1783. En consultant des anciens documents on peut dire, sans risque de trop avancer, que cette famille représente une des plus anciennes et honorables de plusieurs régions françaises.
