Nobility crown Velázquez GazteluProcede este linaje de Francisco Beltrán de Guibelalde, Señor de la casa solar de Guibelaldea, sita en la villa de Gaztelu, del partido judicial de Tolosa, en Guipúzcoa. Vivió este caballero en la primera mitad del siglo XV, y de él descendieron por línea varonil los Velázquez-G., apellido formado a mediados del siglo XVI, por el matrimonio de Francisco de G. con doña Catalina Velázquez, de la familia de los Velázquez de Cuéllar. Sus hijos y descendientes antepusieron el apellido materno al paterno, sin duda por su mayor antigüedad y nobleza, y en recuerdo acaso del célebre Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, compañero de Cristóbal Colón y conquistador de la Isla de Cuba, tío carnal de doña Catalina. Esta familia se estableció en Orán desde los primeros años de su conquista y posteriormente en Málaga, y su rama primogénita fué elevada en el siglo XVIII a la dignidad de título de Castilla, en Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Ostentaron los de Marqueses de Campo Ameno, Vizcondes de San Antón del Riscal y Marqueses de Valdeflores. En Vizcaya estuvo muy extendido el apellido G., poseyendo casas en las villas de Abadiano y de Ochandiano, pertenecientes ambas al partido judicial de Durango; en el barrio de Elejabeitia, del Ayuntamiento de Castillo-Elejabeitia, en el mismo partido judicial de Durango, y en la anteiglesia de Arrieta, del partido judicial de Guernica. Se hallaba esta última casa cerca de la Dolara y se llamó de San Martín de Líbano, por estar fundada en la Cofradía de Líbano. Son sus armas: De gules, con un castillo de oro, surmontado de una cruz de plata y acostado de dos pinos de sinople, y al pie de sus troncos dos lobos de sable, contramirándose. El estudio del escudo heráldico familiar nos "habla" de quienes formaron el origen de la familia V., pues esa era su función, la de manifestar a los demás sus elementos diferenciales, pues la inclusión del elemento castillo es la característica del dominio feudal, pertenecientes a familias con memoria anterior al siglo XI, es símbolo de autoridad, gobierno y protección.
