Don Juan V. natural de Córdoba, Caballero de la Orden de Santiago, contrajo matrimonio con María de Bethencourt, hija de Juan Pérez de Munguía y Margarita de Bethencourt. Fueron vecinos de Lanzarote y tuvieron ocho hijos, siendo el sucesor: Don Marcos V. Bethencourt, Caballero Hijodalgo, que por su nobleza le fue devuelta la sisa en el año 1535, contrajo matrimonio con Doña María de Bilbao, nieta del Conquistador de este apellido, que pasó de la Península a estas islas y de este enlace nació Baltasar de Bethencourt, que casó con María Sánchez, hija de Don Diego Álvarez Perdomo y Agueda Pérez de Monguía, que casó con Alonso de Lugo, Alcalde Real de Garachico. Así consta del testamento de Don Marcos V. en 1552, ante Gaspar Justiniano y otros instrumentos públicos. Estos últimos tuvieron los siguientes hijos: Marcos V., Alonso de Lugo, Pedro de Lugo, María de Bilbao, que casó con Ginés Polo; Ana de Lugo, Juana de Bethencourt que contrajo nupcias con Marcos Pérez, y Melchora V., que lo hizo con Juan de Mena. La noble familia V., por sus enlaces con la Casa Aguilar y Bethencourt, adquirió gran notoriedad en Canarias. En principio se estableció en Gádar, pasando una rama a Lanzarote, donde existen descendientes de este apellido. Se cree que la "Cueva de los Verde", debe su nombre a esta familia, por la vinculación que tuvo antiguamente a tan importante galería volcánica subterránea. ...
