Nobility crown VergezesLa branche aînée, des seigneuries d'Aubussargues, a été maintenue dans sa noblesse en Languedoc le 3 décembre 1668, sur preuves antérieures remontant à Jean, père d'Antoine écuyer, seigneur de St-Hippolyte qui fit faire une enquête pour établir sa noblesse en 1544. Cette branche prit part à l'assemblèe de la noblesse de Nîmes en 1789. Un rameau, fixé à Saugues en 1559, avait dérogé par l'exercice de charges de judicature, mais ne laissa de tenir un rang distingué dans la bourgeoisie de cette ville. De père en fils, les de Vergèzes étaient baillis des baronnies de Vabres et de St-Privat-d'Allier. Isaïe était consul de Saugues en 1600; Antoine, seigneur de Gizac, avocat en parlement, bailli de la ville et marquisat de Langeac en 1681. Jean-Hilaire, bailli de St-Privat, épousa, le 9 février 1750, Antoinette Geraud de Nolhac. Leur fils Jean-Louis, écuyer, conseiller du roi, bailli de Mercœur, puis maire et juge de paix de Saugues, marié à Issoire le 14 août 1781 à Marie Levé du Montat de Siorac, est porté sur la liste des émigrés de la Hte-Loire et fut guillotiné à Paris le 16 Juillet 1794.
