Nobility crown VertolayeRace chevaleresque. Très ancienne en Auvergne. Possessionnée en Forez dès 1253. Guérin et Bertrand furent présents l'an 1195, à une transaction intervenue entre Agnon de Maymont seigneur dudit lieu et d'Olliergues, et Hugues de Damas seigneur de Cousans en Forez. Guérin est cité dans un hommage d'avril 1208. Geoffroy, chevalier, est dit seigneur de la Roche près St-Marcellin en Forez, à cause de sa femme Ebrande (1253). Autre Guérin, damoiseau, et Simon, chevalier, sont mentionnés en novembre 1286 dans le testament de Bertrand III sire de la Tour. Antoine, écuyer, seigneur de Boutonargues, vivait en 1469-1481. François fut convoqué au ban de 1543. Il fit une branche en Velay, ayant épousé le 29 janvrier 1526 Béatrix de Bonnas, d'où: Antoine, écuyer, seigneur d'Ebde, Arsac, la Conche, le Masboyer, etc. qui s'allia le 22 juin 1564 à Madeleine de Marcenat, veuve de Jean de Louët, en secondes noces à Blanche de Guillomanche, et fut l'aïeul de Godefroy seigneur de Séneujols, Auteyrac, le Roure, Sansaguet, Marric, etc. marié le 22 janvrier 1622 à Marguerite de Lobeyrac et maintenu en Velay le 26 septembre 1669. Deux abbés de l'Ile-Barbe (1268-1270); deux chanoines-comtes de Brioude (1319-1547). ...
