Jusepe de Villalobos, natural de Griñón, soltero, hijo de Cristóbal de Villalobos y de doña María de Calatayud, nombrado Escribano por decreto de la Compañía de Indias el 4 enero 1577, emprendió viaje al Perú el 28 mayo 1578 desde el puerto de Sevilla, según consta en el Archivo General de Indias. Por otra documentación procedente del mismo archivo, sabemos que hizo gran fortuna y tuvo cinco hijos a los cuales reconoció y dotó en su testamento, por lo que suponemos que es uno de los iniciadores de este apellido en América. Otra casa muy antigua, apellido castellano, se extendió por toda la Península con la Reconquista. Caballeros de este linaje probaron su nobleza en las Ordenes de Santiago, Calatrava, Carlos III y San Juan de Jerusalén, en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid y en la Real Compañía de Guardias Marinas. Don Gabriel Fernández de Villalobos fue creado Marqués de Barinas en 30 de noviembre de 1686. Desde 1945, Don Alfondo Gil-Delgado y de la Plaza, Armaday Zumelzu, III Marqués. Con el descubrimiento del Nuevo Mundo, muchos fueron los hombres y mujeres que cruzaron el Atlántico en busca de un nuevo horizonte, y en concreto los que portando el apellido Villalobos, extendieron su linaje por América. Así pues, tras nuestra investigación realizada en el Archivo General de Indias, de los siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII, donde consta el nombre de los pasajeros que viajaron al Nuevo Mundo, encontramos que Alonso de Villalobos, natural de Las Garrovillas, soltero, hijo de Luis de Villalobos y de Francisca Jiménez, partió hacia Honduras el 5 de junio de 1578. ...
