La casa más antigua de Cataluña es la de los señores de Estarás, después barones de Segur al enlazar con la "pubilla" de los Grimau, y marqueses de Castellbell y de Castellmeiá, barones de Maldá y de Maldanell de la Morana, condes de Sant Miquel de Castellar y de Montagut-Alto. Galcerán de V. y de Xetmar, señor de Estarás, natural de Estarás, fue caballero de la Orden de San Juan en 1633 y comendador en la misma de Tortosa, Vilafranca, Mallorca y Espluga de Francolí. Magín de V. y de Saportella, señor de Estarás, fue agraciado por el archiduque-pretendiente, en 1708, con el título de conde de V. de Saportella. Su hermano José de V. y de Saportella, fue caballero de la Orden de San Juan en 1675 y gran prior de Cataluña de 1721 a 1734. Poncio de V., caballero, fue convocado por Alfonso III, desde Mallorca, el 27 de noviembre de 1327, para que asistiese a las Cortes de Barcelona de aquel año. Otra familia de V. radicó en Sant Joan de les Abadesses y a ella pertenecieron José de V. y Maresma, doctor en ambos Derechos, matriculado ciudadano honrado de Barcelona el 1 de mayo de 1698, a quien el archiduque-pretendiente concedió privilegio de caballero del Principado de Cataluña. Su nieto, el abogado de los Reales Consejos, Antonio de V. y de Manresa fue agraciado por Carlos IV, el 18 de noviembre de 1801, con el título de barón de Castellnou de Montsec.
