Vuole la tradizione che la famiglia Sozzi di Bergamo sia un ramo della famiglia dei Capitani, bandita dal Ducato di Milano. Stabilitasi sul territorio bergamasco, acquistò molti beni ed il Castello di Calusco; altri beni a Gorlago e finalmente a Caprino Bergamasco. In Bergamo ebbe uno splendido palazzo sul colle San Giovanni, con due torri, che appartennero alla fortezza chiamata Firma fides di Bernabò Visconti e con una loggia ad archi tra le medesime che prospetta a mezzodì sopra i bastioni di Santa Grata. Ora fa parte del Seminario Vescovile. Dal colle San Giovanni i Sozzi si trasferirono, al principio del secolo scorso, in un palazzo presso il ponte della Morla, poi Riccardi e ora Beretta; e da questo al palazzo Tassis in via Pignolo, ora Perico Baldini.
