En el Libro Becerro se dice que, al comienzo de la Reconquista, un caballero de este linaje acompañó al Rey don Pelayo. Florez de Ocariz añade que dicho caballero se llamó Lope de Z. En Vizcaya radicaron casas de Z., en las villas de Bilbao, Durango, Elorrio y Portugalete, ésta del partido de Valmaseda; en las anteiglesias de Dima, Ceánuri, Bernagoitia y Yurre, del partido de Durango, y en la de Zamudio, del Bilbao. De la Casa de la anteiglesia de Yurre fué Pascual de Z., casado con doña Juana N., a la que hizo madre de Agustín de Z., vecino de yurre y esposo de doña María de Lasarte, en la que procreó a Martín, que sigue, Gregorio y Juana de Z. y Lasarte. El mayor, Martín de Z. y Lasarte, nació en Yurre, y trasladó su residencia al lugar de Amézaga, del Valle de Zuya, en Álava, donde contrajo matrimonio con doña Aguda Artiaga, y fueron padres de Bartolomé de Z. y Artiaga, bautizado en Amézaga el 25 de Noviembre de 1657, que celebró su enlace con doña María de la Fuente, naciendo de esta unión Matías, que sigue, Tomás de Z. y de la Fuente, bautizado el 28 de Diciembre de 1682, y Agueda de Z. y de la Fuente, bautizada el 14 de Septiembre de 1688. El mayor, Matías de Z. y de la Fuente, nació en Vitoriano, lugar del mismo Valle de Zuya, y recibió el bautismo el 29 de Febrero de 1680. Casó con doña María de Estavillo y tuvo a Manuel Matías de Z. y Estavillo, bautizado en Guereña, el 27 de Julio de 1713. Otra casa muy antigua. Linaje oriundo de Vizcaya, de donde se ha estendido en los demás reinos y señoríos de España y ha producido muchos varones eminentes en las armas y en las letras, que se han distinguido en la Península y en las Indias Orientales y Occidentales. ...
