El apellido Z. es uno de los más ilustres y calificados de España. Los genealogistas de mayor prestigio y autoridad afirman de una manera unánime que procede del linaje de Zeballos o Ceballos, que tenía su casa solar en el valle de Buelna, en las Asturias de Santillana. Rodrigo de Ceballos, Señor de esa casa, fué padre de Martín Ruiz de Zeballos, y éste tuvo por hijo y sucesor a Fernán Martínez de Zeballos, Capitán muy valeroso, que sirvió al Rey Don Alfonso IX y fué el fundador del apellido que nos ocupa. Este caballero ganó a los moros la villa de A., de la provincia de Cuenca y distante unas diez leguas de esta ciudad, en 1176, siendo el primero que escaló la casi inexpugnable fortaleza de la referida villa, de la que le nombró Alcaide Don Alfonso IX, autorizándole además para que tomase el nombre de la villa por apellido, y concediéndole las nuevas armas. En virtud de todo esto, el citado Fernán Martínez de Zeballos suprimió este último apellido y comenzó a llamarse desde entonces Fernán Martínez de Alarcon., apellido que continuaron llevando sus descendientes. Está sepultado en la antigua iglesia de San Juan, de la citada villa de A., dentro de una reja, en medio de la capilla mayor, donde se ve su bandera. Él y sus sucesores fueron durante algún tiempo Alcaides de la fortaleza de A. y llevaban todas las rentas reales que al Rey pertenecían, y de las que también les había hecho merced Don Alfonso IX, confirmándolas los Monarcas sucesores de éste. ...
