El solar primitivo de A. estuvo en Galicia, en la Torre de A., en el lugar y coto del mismo nombre, entre el Duero y el Miño, feligresía de San Pedro de Monrufe, cerca de la villa de Valladares. Antonio de Lima, insigne cronista genealógico lusitano, y otros autores, dicen que este linaje de A. es originario del condado y villa de Evreus, en Normandía; pero en opinión de la mayoría de los tratadistas, se tiene por más cierto que tal linaje es en España más antiguo, como lo prueba una escritura de donación que hizo la Infanta y Reina Doña Urraca a la silla de iglesia de Tuy. Entre otros bienes y haciendas que le da, dice: "Concedo asimismo a la dicha silla, la heredad de Vasco Núñez de A.; doy enteramente donde quiera que fuere hallada, así en Limia como en Portugal, la cual yo, Urraca, se la doy y dono, y esta heredad me la dió el dicho Vasco Núñez de A. de su libre voluntad, por que yo le ayudé siempre en todo lo que me dijo; y de la manera que me la dió, yo Urraca, la doy y concedo." Su data es de 13 de Enero de 1071, con lo cual se demuestra la antigüedad de esta familia en Galicia, que ya por aquella fecha poseía jurisdicción y señoríos. De los caballeros de más nombre que salieron de Galicia acompañando al Conde D. Enrique a las conquistas de Portugal, fué D.
