Originaria del Delfinato, la famiglia ricorre menzionata già del secolo XIII con possessi feudali a Vallonise, nel Brianzonese. L'11 aprile 1352, Luigi Agnese, capostipite del ramo vivente, prestava omaggio di fedeltà al Delfino per oris osculum, secondo l'usanza dei nobili. Il primo della casata che ebbe signoria feudale negli stati sabaudi fu l'avvocato Giorgio, investito di Fenile (20 giugno 1757) con titolo baronale. Gli succedette il figlio Giovanni che alla baronia di Fenile aggiunse quella di Mattie (11 giugno 1773) e poi per le ragioni dotali della moglie, Cristina Boutal, la contea di Pinasca Inverso.
