Esta familia de A., en neto vascuence Alkorta o Algorta, es oriunda de la anteiglesia de Mendeja, cercana a Lequéitio, en Vizcaya, de donde se extendió per Guipúzcoa y otras muchas partes. En el mencionado pueblecito de Mendeja existe un palacio o casa solar, que actualmente posee don Pascual de A., el cual ha hecho prolijas investigaciones en legajos y pergaminos para dar con el escudo de armas, sin conseguirlo. Sin embargo, la casa solar a la que venimos refiriéndonos ostentó en su fachada, en tiempos remotos, un pétreo escudo de armas, que ya había desaparecido cuando su actual poseedor hizo en la casa algunas reformas. Al arreglarse recientemente una ermita dedicada a Santa Lucía, próxima y adscrita dominicalmente a la casa solariega de A., se insistió de nuevo en la búsqueda del escudo de armas, también con resultado negativo. A pesar de estos fracasados intentos, como consta que el solar referido de Mendeja lució en su casa matriz las armas de la familia, los A. guipuzcoanos (en particular el respetable caballero, don Miguel de A. y Gorosábel, vecino de Villarreal de Urrechu), han insistido en la demanda, logrando al fin, como premio de sus afanes, dar con una relación e armerías, fechada en el Duranguesado en 1691, con ocasión del cruzamiento de Caballero del bravo militar elorriano, Juan Tomás de A. Urquizu Guerediaga e Iturbe, Capitán de Caballos, natural de Elorrio, que ingresó en la Orden de Alcántara en 1692. ...
