Gándara afirma que Ariamiro, Ariano y Arias son un mismo nombre, y de ahí el patronímico Arias con que se apellidó la mencionada familia. Descendiente directo del mencionado Ariamiro o Aramiro, octavo Rey de los suevos de Galicia, fué el Conde Argimiro Arias, Señor del castillo de Arias de Amaya, Deza y otros vasallos, que casó con doña Arceriunda, hija de Severiano, Conde de Galicia, fueron padres de Melendo Arias, Señor de Deza y otros Estados, que alcanzó los tiempos del infeliz Rey godo Don Rodrigo, y murió en la batalla de Guadalete. Había casado con doña Idaura Lucida, y de esta unión nació Suando o Sancho Méndez, del que se afirma que fué Ayo del Rey Don Pelayo y que se halló con él en Covadonga. Este caballero contrajo matrimonio con doña Reciberga Chérino, hija de Evancio Chérino y nieta de Aurelio, hermano este último de la Reina Reciberga, mujer del Rey Chindasvinto, e hijos ambos de otro Evancio, que fué hermano de San Eugenio, Arzobispo de Toledo.
