Antigua e ilustre familia de Toscana, establecida en Florencia desde el siglo XII. Se consideraba descendiente de Ildebrando o Aldobrando, guerrero de gigante estatura que pasó con los longobardos a Italia. El nombre de esta familia parece por primera vez en las historia en 1202, al marchar los florentinos contra Semifonte e invadir el Milanesado, en cuya expedición figuraron ya Adelardo y Urolino A. Conviene tener en cuenta que bajo este nombre existieron tres familias distintas que ostentaban diferente blasón llamadas, respectivamente, A. di Lippo, A. Bellincioni y A. Piazza Maggiore o del Papa, por haber pertenecido a ella Clemente VIII. Las dos primeras se extinguieron pronto, pero la línea directa subsistió hasta 1681 y fué cuna de los Príncipes de Rostano.
