Essa, infatti, apparteneva a quel gruppo di famiglie mercatali, che contribuirono, con le loro ricchezze, a far divenire la città di Asti uno dei liberi Comuni medievali più importanti e conosciuti del nord Italia. Di parte ghibellina furono vassalli del vescovo di Asti fin dalla metà del XII secolo, quando il vescovo Oberto II li investì del feudo di Antignano, Castiglione e Cassiano. D'altronde, in Asti, gli Antignano avevano dimora proprio nella contrada di San Sisto, ovvero nei pressi del palazzo Vescovile.
