Miguel Antonio y Pablo de Sagastibelza y A., naturales de Azpiroz, del Ayuntamiento de Larraun, en el mismo partido, fueron reconocidos como nobles por la Real Audiencia de Pamplona, en 1762. Pasarón a Guipúzcoa. Juan de A. fué vecino de Legazpia, en 1532, y Juan Pérez de A., originario de la villa de A., era vecino de San Sebastián, en 1566. Gregorio de A. probó su hidalguía en Elgóibar, en 1630. Por referencias de historiadores de la época y otras averiguadas por Araldis en los archivos registrales de ciudades y otros privados, podríamos afirmar, pero no asegurar, que este escudo u otro muy similar a él, apareció inicialmente desde el siglo XI al XIV, particularmente en la repoblación de Álava, fines del siglo XII, siendo una de las familias que fundó Vitoria en el lugar que ocupaba una aldea llamada Gazteiz.
