On trouve ce nom diversement écrit Archier ou Archer. Cette famille, de la magistrature municipale de La Linde, compte grand nombre de consuls dans cette ville. Il suffira de rappeler que dans la liste chronologique publiée par l'abbé Goustat, dans son intéressant ouvrage "Lalinde et ses libertés Communales", le nom d'Archier figure depuis 1511 jusqu'en 1673, preuve de la considération dont jouissait la famille pendant la période de plus d'un siècle et demi. En 1588, Jean Archier était procureur du Roi à Lalinde, il l'était encore en 1619. En 1617, Georges, procureur du Roi mourut en 1652, laissant son fils Isaac, juge de Lalinde. En 1700, Georges était revêtu de la judicature de Lalinde, office qu'il vendit; mais ce marché n'eut pas lieu et Georges remit son office à Messire d'Arlot de Cumond, marquis de Lalinde, ainsi que son gendre et successeur en la judicature de la ville, Monsieur de Verdesme. Vers la fin du XVIIIème siècle, la famille d'Archer était encore répandue à Drayaux et à Beaumont, où l'un de ses descendants exerçait alors les fonctions de notaire. Entre autres alliances des Archer: les Verdesme, les Briançon, les Adhemard du Roc, les du Saulx, etc. Cette famille est venue se fixer vers 1740 à Sainte-Alvère, où elle est représentée par Louis Archer. ...
