Nobility crown BarahonaHay una antigua leyenda, recogida en no pocos "Nobiliarios" y Crónicas, que atribuye el origen de este apellido a un hecho fantástico, del que hace protagonista a la viuda del Infante Don Vela. Trátase, claro está, de una burda invención, de la que nosotros prescindimos, para concretarnos a las noticias serias que de este linaje se tienen. Procede de la villa de Barahona (cuyo nombre tomó), del partido judicial de Medinaceli, provincia de Soria, y sus ramas se extendieron por la Rioja, las dos Castillas, Extremadura, Álava y Vizcaya. También pasaron a Andalucía. Una rama, dimanada del solar de la villa de Barahona, tuvo casa en el lugar de Espejo, del partido judicial de Soria, y de ella fué Lope Muñoz B., que vivió en fines del siglo XV. Era natural de Espejo y casó con doña María Saravia, de la misma naturaleza, naciendo de ese enlace María de B., natural de Espejo, que casó con Juan Ortiz de Valderrama, natural de Salinas de Añana, villa del partido judicial de Vitoria (Álava), y fueron padres del Regente Juan de B., natural de Salinas de Añana y caballero de la Orden de Santiago en 1561. Por la provincia de Burgos se extendieron notablemente los B. En la villa de Rojas, del partido judicial de Briviesca, moraba en mediados del siglo XV una rama, a la que perteneció Juan B., que de su mujer doña Elvira de Vergara, tuvo a Juan B., segundo del nombre, que casó con doña Catalina Fernández, y fueron padres de Fernando B. ...
