Sancho II e se nomeou governador do Reino seu irmão, no ano de 1245. Casou com D. Maior Rodrigues de Vasconcelos, filha de Rui Peres de Gandarei e de sua mulher, Teresa Vasques, de quem teve geração que continuou o apelido de Bastos.
Fora do matrimónio teve, da filha de um escudeiro, D. Pedro Gomes Barroso, cuja descendência seguiu este apelido. Antigamente o apelido era Bastos, precedido da preposição do, mas em princípios do século XVII começou a transformar-se, primeiro pela preposição que passou a de e depois pela pluralização do nome. Assim os do Bastos tornaram-se em de Bastos ou simplesmente Bastos, pois hoje usam-no quase todos sem preposição. Não têm armas próprias, usando uns as dos Barrosos e outros as dos Bairros. ...
