Nobleza: Nobles
Rastro heráldico de la familia: Brahm
Corona de la nobleza Brahm
Ancient and noble German family, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. The origin of this surname should be sought in a contracted form of the proper name "Abraham" but the origin of it could be also topographical from residence by an area of meadow land covered by the shrub known as "broom". According to what has been handed down, this family once belonged to the ancient nobility of the "Uradel", a term coined only in modern times, in reference to noble families whose ancestral lineage can be traced back to before the Middle Ages. Contrasts with "Briefadel" (lit. "letter of nobility"), titles created by letters patent from the king, a fashion which, influenced by French practice, was introduced in Germany under Emperor Charles IV. service, in the liberal professions and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Offo, landowner in Hamburg, flourishing in 1309; Karl, eminent jurist, flourishing in Berlin, in 1538; Nicholas, landowner in Brandenburg, flourishing in 1572; Karl Franz, military doctor, flourishing in Berlin, in 1534; Otto, doctor in "utroque jure", flourishing in Potsdam, in 1603; Friedrich, landowner in Brandenburg, flourishing in 1644; Heinrich, jurist, flourishing in Berlin, in 1653; Franz, councilor in Potsdam, in 1673; Anton, general of cavalry, under the banners of Charles VI; Hans, jurist in Dresden, flourishing in 1794; Franz Hans, jurist, flourishing in Berlin in 1841; Robert, auxiliary Bishop of Trier and titular Bishop of Mimiana. From the analysis of colours and symbols of the coat of arms we can have more information about the family virtues. The argent ("silver"), in fact, symbolizes purity, tenderness, temperance, mercy, kindness, the desire to win and the talent of eloquence; the wheel is a symbol of progress and work but also luck; the tincture gules ("red") is symbol of strength and power but also fervent love for God; the blackberries, like the bramble, symbolize independence. Family names so old, without any doubt, honour not only the families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious persons.
