Nobility crown CaamanoAlgunos autores, faltos de critica, atribuyen a este apellido orígenes fabulosos, y dicen, nada menos, que procede de los príncipes de Troya, siendo el príncipe Sicambro (hijo de Franco, nieto de Héctor y bisnieto del último rey troyano), el que desembarcó en Galicia y originó la descendencia le los C. en aquel reino. Galicia, en efecto, es la cuna de este linaje, que tiene mucha antigüedad, pero por eso mismo no es fácil esclarecer su origen. Los C. se extendieron por nuestra penísula, fundando nuevas casas, en Cataluña, Valencia, Castilla, Andalucía, Extremadura, Portugal y América. Señores de las casa de Vista Alegre y Barrantes y del señorío de Villagarcía. De esta rama fue: Rodrigo C. de Mendoza y Moscoso, sucedió a sus padres y fue caballero de la Orden de Alcántara. Sirvió al rey y se halló en el socorro de Fuenterrabía y después en el ejército de Cataluña. Murió en Reus en 1640. Había casado con doña Bernardina de Lemus y Villar, señora de la casa de Villar de Camba y Villa de Lobin, en la que procreó a Fernando C. de Mendoza de Lemus y Sotomayor, que sigue, y Urraca C. de Mendoza y Sotomayor, que casó dos veces: la primera con Pedro Pardo de Andrade, caballero de Santiago y señor de la casa y fortaleza de Sobrán, del que no tuvo sucesión, y la segunda con Fernando de Seijas, señor de Narla, del que dejó descendencia. ...
