Les Calemard de la Fayette ont obtenu des lettres confirmatives de noblesse le 12 avril 1828. Elles ont pour tige: Jean Baptiste, seigneur de Calemard, du Vernet, des Mas, coseigneur de Baffie, subdélégué en Velay de l'intendant du Languedoc. Il épousa Charlotte Artaud et fut l'auteur de: Marcellin Calemard de la Fayette, seigneur du Vernet, de Coussanges, conseiller du Roi (1713), doyen de la cour du sénéchal du Puy, allié en 1715 à Françoise de Bernard de Javaloux; d'où Pierre, époux en 1715 de Marguerite de La Mure; d'où: Pierre-Marcellin, écuyer, coseigneur de Javaloux, etc., marié en 1779 à Anna de Sigaud de Chadrac, dame en partie de Ceyssac. La dernière descendante de cette branche: Jenny Calemard de la Fayette a épousé, le 26 juin 1911, Henri Grellet, baron du Saint-Empire, officier de cavalerie. Parmi les personnages les plus marquants de cette branche on signale: des chanoines de N.-D. du Puy; des hommes d'armes; des baillis et capitaines-chatelains de Viverols, de Baffie et de Craponne; deux premiers consuls de cette ville (1704-1743); trois députés de la Hte-Loire (1816-1836-1871), l'un d'eux Charles Calemard de la Fayette, agronome éminent, littérateur et poète, est l'auteur du "Poème des champs" (1883), volume couronné par l'Académie française. Son petit-fils: Olivier, mort avant sa trentième année a écrit deux volumes de poesies: "Le Rêve des jours" et "La Montée". ...
