Antica ed illustre famiglia, con residenza in Cesena, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel nome medioevale "Aloisius", appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. In ogni modo, il personaggio della famiglia, di cui si abbia memoria storica certa è Monsignor Luigi Alvisi, il quale nel 1376 reggeva la diocesi di Cesena. In seguito allo scempio che della città facevano i Bretoni, nel 1377, la famiglia Aloisi si trasferì in Ravenna, donde non vi fece ritorno se non dopo 180 anni di assenza. Giovanni-Battista, conte Pasolini, patrizio cesenate, figlio di Adriana Orlati, morendo senza prole, lasciava i suoi averi ed il nome della madre, che voleva continuarlo, alla moglie Maria-Domenica Aloisi, e d'allora in poi gli Aloisi furono sempre chiamati Orlati.
