Por los datos históricos que de ella se conservan, se sabe que tuvo castillo, que servía de defensa contra las invasiones que sufría Navarra por los castellanos, y que en 1244 la poseía en Señorío Guillermo Pérez de Castejón, que es el primero de este apellido del que se tiene noticia.
