Un grand maréchal et plusieurs chevaliers de St-Jean-de-Jérusalem; six baillis royaux du Velay: 1° François, baron de la Faye, de la Brosse et de St-Just, maître d'hôtel ordinaire du roi et l'un des cent gentilshommes de sa chambre, bailli royal du Velay de 1544 au 8 mai 1555; - 2° François, sgr. de la Brosse et de Vernon ou Vernoux, chevalier de l'ordre du roi, capitaine de 50 hommes de ses ordonnances, nommé gouverneur puis lieutenant-général pour le roi dans le pays de Velay (1589), tué le 16 oct. 1594 sous le murs de la ville du Puy dont il avait tenté de s'emparer (1587-1594); - 3° Jean, sgr. de St-Just, gentilhomme ordinaire de la chambre du roi, fils de François qui précède, bailli du Velay et sénéchal du Puy (1597-1603); - 4° Charles, baron de Crespon et de St-Just, neveu du précédent, bailli royal du Velay et sénéchal du Puy (1606-1650); - 5° Claude-Nicolas, marquis de Charpey, baron de la Brosse et de Fay, bailli du Velay et sénéchal du Puy (1650-1654), puis de nouveau en 1675; - 6° François-Alphonse dit le comte de Roussillon, baron de la Brosse et de Charpey, frère puiné de Claude-Nicolas, bailli du Velay, sénéchal du Puy (1654-1711). - Cinq abbesses du monastère de Clavas près Riotord (1507-1642); un vice-amiral gouverneur de Dieppe, plus tard ambassadeur en Angleterre (1589); des maréchaux de camp, etc. Très belles alliances. Éteinte avec François de Clermont-Chaste, créé en 1734, marechal de camp armées du roi. ...
