Antica e notabile famiglia friulana, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del mondo. Tradizione vuole che essa discenda dalla nobile famiglia siciliana Chiarandà, iscritta nel Libro d'Oro della Nobiltà Italiana e nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano anno, la quale ebbe dimora principale nella città di Caltagirone. Di essa si ha già notizia nel XVI secolo con un Antonino, capitano di giustizia nel 1559/50, ed un Pietro Paolo, con la stessa carica nel 1593/4. Successivamente si distinsero anche: Vincenzo, patrizio di Caltagirone nel 603/4; Giuseppe, capitano di giustizia nel 1698/1700, il quale, in data 8 giugno 1725, ebbe l'investitura del feudo di Friddani. Si ritiene che un ramo della casata Chiarandà abbia riparato in territorio friulano sul calare del XVIII secolo, non sappiamo per qual motivo, e che ivi il cognome sia stato nel tempo settentrionalizzato in Chiarandini.
