El apellido Ch. de Guzmán es, sin disputa, un apellido compuesto, y como tal procede de algún enlace de un caballero de la casa de Chico, de la ciudad de Cuenca, puesto que de ella es oriunda esta familia, con una señora del linaje de Guzmán; pero no están esclarecidos los nombres de esos esposos ni la fecha de su enlace. Sólo consta que la familia Ch. de Guzmán, muy antigua en Cuenca, fué una de las más poderosas de esta ciudad y que sus ramas se extendieron por diversas regiones de la Península. Pedro Ch. de Guzmán, natural del lugar de Ribatajada, del partido judicial de Priego, en la provincia de Cuenca y oriundo de esta ciudad, ingresó en la Orden de Montesa el año de 1590. Ginés Ch. de Guzmán, natural de Cuenca y uno de los continuadores de la varonía primogénita de esta familia, pasó a poblar en Cehegín, villa del partido judicial de Caravaca (Murcia), y gozó allí, así como la línea que formó en dicha villa y que aun subsiste, de todas las preeminencias inherentes a su condición e hidalguía. Un descendiente suyo, llamado Juan Ch. de Guzmán, Gobernador de Caravaca, fué nombrado en 1661 para pasar a la villa de Cilzar (hoy Cieza, también de la provincia de Murcia) y reprimir los disturbios y luchas intestinas de algunos vecinos, que hacía mucho tiempo que estaban arruinando la citada población. A tal objeto se dirigió a Cieza con 1.000 hombre escogidos de Cehegín y Caravaca y castigó severamente a los revoltosos, restableciendo la normalidad. ...
