Pier Antonio di Cosenza, primo esponente di cui abbiam novella, prese il nome di Cosenza per la sua patria, essendo egli della famiglia Carolei, tra le più chiare di Cosenza. Il detto Pier Antonio, infatti, al tempo di re Martino, passò dalla Calabria in Sicilia ed ivi, avendo accumulato molte ricchezze, acquistò numerosi feudi.
