Varios tratadistas entienden que los apellidos E., Echabarría, Echáberri, Echébarri, Echebarría, Echeverri, y Echeberría, son modalidades de un mismo linaje, muy extendido por Vizcaya, Álava, Guipúzcoa y Navarra, y que la diferencia de sus nombres obedece a los distintos dialectos vascos en que se escribó dicho apellido. No es cosa de oponer reparos a esas afirmaciones, de muy difícil o casi imposible comprobación en estos tiempos, pero sí conviene hacer constar que las partículas Echa y Eche, en vascuence, quieren decir casa en castellano, y que el significado de todos los mencionados apellidos es el de casa nueva, lo que no va, ciertamente, en contra de su comunidad de origen, pero sí indica diversidad de casas, de nuevas casas que, aun cuando fueran dimanadas de un mismo primitivo solar, es indudable que se separa ron y diferenciaron notoriamente, usando escudos de armas distintos y formando familias diversas, sin otro vínculo de parentesco entre muchas de ellas que alguno muy remoto y problemático. También es interesante tener en cuenta que varias familias de los apellidos citados traen su arranque de lugares y anteiglesias de las Vascongadas y de Navarra de nombre idéntico al que dichas familias llevan por apellido, lo que sin duda parece indicar que éste lo tomaron del nombre de los pueblos de que eran originarias. ...
