Nom primitif: du Coignet. On trouve en 1347 des du Coignet possesseurs du mas Dugas, dont ils retinrent le nom. Nombreux rameaux. Filiation depuis: Pierre Dugas, habitant Valfleury au XVIème siècle, père de: 1° Jean, qui suit; 2° François, qui fit branche; 3° Nicolas, capitaine au régiment de Bourbonnais (1645). Jean Dugas, notaire royal à St-Chamond, seigneur engagiste de Chagnon (1620-1679), est dit père de Charles et d'Antoine. Charles Dugas, seigneur de Valdurèse, fut la tige des Dugas de la Catonnière, créés barons par lettres patentes du 3 août 1816 (existants) et des Dugas de Valdurèse des Varennes (éteints). Antoine, notaire royal, procureur d'office de St-Chamond, marié le 4 mars 1669 à Catherine Rigaud, fut l'aïeul de Joseph Dugas, marié le 20 août 1727 à Catherine Vialès d'où 14 enfants parmi lesquels: I. Jean-Baptiste Dugas, écuyer, seigneur de Chassagny, dont la posterité s'est éteinte dans les Jordan de Sury. II. Jacques, seigneur du Vernat (1731-1796), anobli avec son frère Jean-Baptiste par lettres patentes de mars 1777. Il acquit de Claude-Marie, comte de Damas, la baronnie du Villard-Boucherolles qui donnait entrée aux Etats du Velay, si le possesseur pouvait faire les preuves requises et eut d'Elisabeth Regnauld: Camille-Catherin Dugas, baron du Villerd (1774-1860), marié à Jacqueline Jacquet du Chaillou. Leur fils Zénon Dugas, baron du Villard (1804-1855), laissa entre autres d'Alexandrine de Layvillière: 1° Camille, baron du Villard, allié en novembre 1863 à Marie de Fraix de Figon, d'où 13 enfants; 2° Paulien Dugas du Villard , marié en 1868 à Elisabeth Neyrand, d'où postérité. III. Jean-Jacques Dugas-Vialis, premier consul de St-Chamond (1786), tige des Dugas-Vialis (existants), alliée en Velay aux Faulcon de Longevialle et aux Dugas du Villard. IV. Camille, écuyer, seigneur du Sapt, né en 1742, conseiller secrétaire du roi, anobli par cette charge. Sa postérité existe à St-Chamond. V. Claude-Marie de la Boissonny, écuyer, conseiller-secrétaire du roi, marié le 24 mai 1774 à Agathe Crozet, d'où posterité en Forez. Un curé de la Chapelle, maistre ès arts et chanoine de l'Eglise de Monistrol en Velay (1677), puis de St-Chamond; un conseiller du roi en la sénéchaussée de Lyon ...
