Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del Regno di Napoli, oriunda da Amalfi, annoverata già nel secolo decimo terzo tra le feudatarie del regno, il cui capostipite si rinviene in un Sergio, della repubblica amalfitana. Passò primieramente in Sorrento, al cui patriziato fu aggregata, nel seggio di Porta, e poi in Napoli, ove fu aggregata nei suoi due rami al seggio di Nido e a quello di Capuana. Di tal patriziato fece parte sino all'abolizione dei seggi e pertanto fu iscritta nel Libro d'oro della nobiltà napoletana. La casata ha anche goduto nobiltà in Salerno, nel seggio del Campo, ed in Capua. Ha inoltre vestito l'abito di Malta, nel 1565.
