Originari, come vogliono alcuni, di Aquileia, ed altri di Costantinopoli, passarono nelle isole venete fino dal secolo V. Nel 1297 furono ascritti al patriziato. Ebbero diversi procuratori di S. Marco. Molte famiglie che dimoravano in Venezia appartenevano alla nobiltà. Nel Libro d'Oro della nobiltà veneta e ne il Patriziato Veneto dopo la guerra di Candia e la Serrata del Maggior Consiglio del 1646, eventi questi che lasciarono fama immortale pel grande senno politico e virtù cittadine, troviamo illustre questa famiglia. Sulla scorta di antiche cronache esistenti nella Biblioteca Marciana, e nel R. Archivio di Stato finora inedite; e contrariamente a quanto pubblicò il Freschot nella sua Nobiltà Veneta, le opere sumenzionate sono imparziali riguardo all'origine di talune famiglie, assunte al patriziato veneto. La medesima famiglia fù elevata alla nobiltà per ottimi servigi resi alla patria, o per offerte fatte alla Repubblica per il che vennero ascritti alla veneta nobiltà. ...
