Ardoino, conde de Narbona, descendiente de la casa de Arborea, en Italia, por los años de 1100, hizo su asiento en Génova; edificó su palacio cerca de la puerta D. y fué progenitor de la ilustrísima familia de este nombre, de la cual procedieron muchos varones eminentes y muchas casas tituladas de Italia, enlazadas con casas muy principales de España. Andrés D., caballero de la insigne órden del Toison de oro, príncipe de Melfi, marques soberano de Torriglia, floreció a fines del siglo XV y principios del XVI; visitó los Santos Lugares de Jerusalen, donde fué creado caballero del Santo Sepulcro, sirvió a la santa iglesia, despues a Francia, donde fué caballero de la órden de San Miguel; y últimamente a España, donde fué consejero de Estado del emperador Carlos V y de su hijo el rey Don Felipe II, almirante y general de las galeras y grande de España. Con la poderosa proteccion de Carlos V dió a su patria cierta independencia y nacionalidad librándola del yugo de pueblos estraños, como queda espresado en otro lugar de esta obra, cuya índole no nos permite estendernos segun nuestro deseo sobre las glorias de esta casa y otras no menos ilustres. Otra casa muy antigua. Noble y antiguo linaje de Génova (Italia), cuyos caballeros fueron expertos marinos, políticios y militares. Sirvieron a nuestros Reyes Don Carlos I y Don Felipe II e ingresaron algunos de ellos en nuestras Ordenes Militares. Entroncaron con los Borjas de Valencia por el matrimonio de Doña Artemisa D. y Carreto (hija del segundo Príncipe de Melfi) con Don Carlos de Borja y Centellas, segundo del nombre, VII Duque de Grandía y IV Marqués de Lombay.
