Antica ed assai nobile famiglia di Assisi, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, questa nobile ed eccelsa famiglia vanta come capostipite un barone tedesco di nome Rodolfo, giunto in Italia nel 963. Di Rodolfo, che signoreggiò qualche tempo la patria, fu nipote Ventura, uno dei 24 Nobili Assisani presenti alla canonizzazione del V. e M. S. Stanislao da Cracovia, compiuta in Assisi da Papa Innocenzo IV nel 1253; ed esiste la sua arma nel cimitero di S. Francesco. Ebbe come figli: Nicolò, frate minore, e Confidato, che tornò dalla ghibellina alla parte guelfa, per voler del Pontefice.
